Teach Us To Pray

This Sunday's text begins with the disciples of Jesus asking Jesus to teach them to pray. I read that and think, "What an odd request". I have never asked anyone to teach me how to pray. I think that says more about my pride than it does some of the marvelous people of prayer that I know. I think I have alot to learn about prayer.

The following is a prayer that has touched me. It is from God Is No Fool by Lois A. Cheney.

Today,

For what I am that I ought not to be,

Forgive me.

For what I am not that I ought to be,

Forgive me.

Be with my mouth in what it speaks.

Be with my hands in what they do.

Be with my mind in what it thinks.

Be with my heart in what it feels.

Work in me

through me

for me

in spite of me.
